BUSCH
GARDENS AFRICA (TAMPA), FL
Formerly known as Busch Gardens Tampa.
Busch Gardens Africa is located about 45 minutes away from the Disney area in Orlando. It is home to now three B&M coasters, including their newest installation, Sheikra, the only vertical drop B&M in the states. It is also home to Kumba, which, when it opened in 1993, was B&M's largestinstallation to date, with 7 inversions and 3,978 feet of track. Here you will also find an unique pair of dueling wooden coasters, Gwazi, and one of my favorite inverted coasters, Montu.
BUSCH
GARDENS EUROPE (WILLIAMSBURG), VA Busch Gardens Williamsburg is, in my opinion, the most
beautiful park in the US. It is surrounded by nature and has wonderful
themeing. Here you can find Alpengeist, an immense B&M
Inverted installation. Also, B&M's first Mega-Coaster installation, Apollo's Chariot, with a 210-foot drop. Another unique
installation is the Loch Ness Monster, which has a pair
of interlocking loops as its inversions. Last but not least, the Big
Bad Wolf is one of the few remaining Arrow Dynamics suspended
roller coast¨ers in the world.
CEDAR POINT,
OH This amazing park, located in a peninsula situated in northern
Ohio, has a great collection of record-breaking roller coasters. It has
three coasters which once held the title of World's Tallest Roller coaster: Magnum XL-200 (205 feet), Millennium Force (310 feet), and Top Thrill Dragster (420 feet). It is
also home to two B&M coasters, Raptor and Mantis,
along with an Intamin inverted shuttle coaster, Wicked Twister.
DISNEY'S ANIMAL KINGDOM, FL Disney's Animal Kingdom recently reached out to the audience of thrill-seekers and roller coaster enthusiasts by building a $100 million project, the most expensive attraction ever in Walt Disney World - this project was Expedition Everest, an immense, thoroughly themed Vekoma roller coaster that features a swtich-track and reverse section.
INTERNATIONAL Here you will find my collection of photographs of roller
coasters from amusement parks outside the United States. Currently, I
have pictures from Russia and Brazil, with more to be added soon, hopefully.
One of the coasters in this section is Monte Makaya,
in Rio de Janeiro, which was the first roller coaster to feature 8 inversions,
built by Intamin.
ISLANDS
OF ADVENTURE, FL Islands of Adventure, part of Universal Studios in Orlando, is an exceptionally unique theme park. The park's avenues are extensively themed, and each ride tells a different story. Its two featured roller coasters are also unique. The Incredible Hulk is B&M's only launched coaster to date; it has 7 inversions and a very distinct layout. The Dueling Dragons is the only pair of dueling Inverted coasters in the world, also built by B&M. These two dragons, Fire and Ice, offer two completely different experiences in each track.
PARAMOUNT'S
GREAT AMERICA, CA This park is located in northern California, close to the
city of San Francisco. It is one of the three Paramount parks in the United
States. Here you will find pictures of the world's first "Flying"
roller coaster, Stealth, pioneered by Vekoma. However,
Stealth was relocated to Paramount's Carowinds. This park is also home
to two small B&M roller coasters: Vortex, a compact
stand-up coaster, and TopGun, an inverted
coaster.
PARAMOUNT'S
KINGS DOMINION, VA Kings Dominion is located a few hours away from Busch Gardens
Williamsburg. It is home to some very unique roller coasters. Some examples
are Volcano: The Blast Coaster, which is an Inverted
coaster propelled by Linear Induction Motors; it was the world's first
launched inverted coaster. Another record-holding launched coaster in
this park is HyperSonic XLC, a Compressed Air launch
coaster which accelerates from 0 to 80 mph in 1.8 seconds.
SIX
FLAGS AMERICA, MD Six Flags America is located relatively close to Paramount's
Kings Dominion. If a trip is planned, it is usually a good idea to take
the time to visit both parks. Here you will find a decent collection of
coasters, the best of them being Superman: Ride of Steel,
a 200-foot tall Intamin hypercoaster. Other popular coasters at this park
are Joker's Jinx, a Premiere Rides launched coaster,
and Batwing, a Vekoma flying coaster.
SIX
FLAGS MAGIC MOUNTAIN, CA This is arguably the best Six Flags park in the United
States (competing only with Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey).
It is home to great number of coasters. The most unique roller coaster
in this park is without a doubt X; it is the only Arrow
Dynamics "4th dimension" roller coaster in the world, and also
my favorite roller coaster. It is also home to Goliath,
a Giovanola 235-foot tall hyper coaster; Scream, a B&M
floorless coaster; and The Riddler's Revenge, the world's
tallest stand-up coaster, built also by B&M.
SIX
FLAGS MARINE WORLD, CA Marine World is a park just a few miles north of San Francisco.
This medium-sized Six Flags park is home to not necessarily unique coasters,
but to coasters with unique elements. For example, Medusa is a B&M floorless coaster with a sea-serpent element, the only one
of its kind. Also, V2: Vertical Velocity, is a modified
Intamin inverted shuttle coaster with a 45-degree spiral which provides
its riders some unusual hang-time.
SIX
FLAGS OVER GEORGIA, GA This park I like to consider one of the better Six Flags
parks. Not only does it have a good collection of coasters, but it lacks
the conventional Six Flags unreliability that I usually find in other
parks. One of my favorite coasters, Superman: Ultimate Flight,
a B&M flying coaster, is located at this park. Here you will also
find the Georgia Scorcher a B&M stand-up installation,
and Deja Vu, a Vekoma "Giant Inverted Boomerang"
coaster.
